Meet Mike McGuire
Mike McGuire knows something about innovation and new thinking.
As a former Mayor and City Council Member, he helped create innovative partnerships with small businesses that are bringing new economic activity to his town. On Mike’s watch, Healdsburg has built more affordable housing than any city in the county and it has become a Northern California leader when it comes to clean energy.
Mike has worked his entire adult life to protect our environment and preserve our local agriculture heritage for future generations. He’ll continue to fight to protect our drinking water supplies and the fragile Russian River ecosystem, and to build partnerships with local communities to make the Sonoma County Water Agency a model for water conservation efforts.
As a co-founder of the Clean Water Coalition, Mike was a leader in the effort to stop the City of Santa Rosa from dumping billions of gallons of treated wastewater into the Russian River.
As Northern California’s youngest school board president, Mike led a successful effort to rebuild decaying schools in our area.
Mike knows it’s going to take new thinking and real leadership for our district and our county to confront the massive budget cuts coming from Sacramento and the housing and financial crises here at home.
That’s why he’ll work to develop partnerships with the Santa Rosa Junior College and Sonoma State to create new, high-wage jobs and a workforce that is prepared to compete for those positions.
And Mike will push the county to work closely with all school districts and communities to share resources and help our districts focus more of their dollars on classroom learning. Mike helped develop a model joint-use agreement where Healdsburg’s parks and recreation department pays for maintenance of the school district’s largest playing fields – freeing up school dollars for education while providing city families with additional recreational programming.
He’ll build on his progress as a Councilperson and member of the Sonoma County Transportation Authority, where he fought to save public transportation from budget cuts and is working to expand Highway 101 and promote environmentally friendly transit options.
Mike will continue to advocate for long-term solutions to the county’s health care needs just as he did when he fought to keep the doors open at Healdsburg Hospital and as a supporter of the Alliance Medical Center.
Mike cares about the future of our county because Northern Sonoma County has been his family's home for three generations.
A graduate of Sonoma State University, Santa Rosa Junior College and Healdsburg High School, Mike was raised right here in Sonoma County. His family farmed Alexander Valley lands – growing prunes and grapes – for almost a half century. Mike and his fiancé, Erika, a local schoolteacher, are looking forward to raising their family here.
Join working families, teachers, seniors, small business owners, farmers and thousands of Sonoma County residents who know we can build a sustainable economy that protects our environment and our quality of life.
Mike McGuire for Supervisor.
